Sunday a few weeks ago I did something I’ve never done before. I climbed a mountain, more spesifically Skiberfjellet. It is Vestfold’s tallest and extends 632 meters above sea level. (Don’t laugh – 632 meters is no joke for a mountain virgin!). I’m not what you would say ‘in touch with nature’. Mother Earth and I don’t exactly go hand-in-hand, and it’s no secret that I find Sex and the City WAY more appealing than nature documentaries. But I’m restless. For years I lived in big cities, now I live in a tiny town. I need to break away now and then, and unfortunately New York is too far away to happen in a day. So, I thought, ‘why not climb a mountain?’. Ok, climbing would be bending the truth a little… Walking, paired with slipping, sliding, stumbling and (almost) falling, is a more accurate description. Are we there yet? Skiberfjellet is situated in Hof municipality, about 20 minutes by car outside Eidsfoss. Before you arrive in Eidsfoss, there’s a sign on your left hand side pointing you in the right direction. It’s not the most majestic of mountains, like the ones you normally associate with Norway.
